Ghar Parau by David Judson tells the story of the 1972 and 1973 expeditions to bottom this Iranian cave, a discovery that the cavers hoped would set a new world record. It was not to be, and on the return in 1973 the end came only with a sump just around the next corner - coining the term 'it Ghar Paraued'. The attendant publicity was huge and led to this book production, with proceeds going to set up the Ghar Parau Foundation which today offers grants to caving expeditions. As such, this book is a must for all speleologists who are interested to learn more about the background of today's caving world.
