Northern Caves by Sam Allshorn and Paul Swire
Prices include delivery
In one sense, caving guidebooks are the lifeblood of British caving; they detail sites and tell us where to go, how to gain access, even where lesser caves are found that we think are worth digging. The caves of northern England were covered by a set of three guides, long out of print and out of date. Now, in September 2017, we see the publication of a new guidebook: Northern Caves. The Three Counties System and the North-West (thus, roughly speaking, replacing the old volume 3).
This is a major undertaking that has consumed a decade of the authors' lives, producing a thick, finely produced and printed softback with a laminated cover and sewn pages for strength; it runs to 472 pages, including 21 new maps and 33 surveys (three of them double-pages). Every caver who visits the north will wish to have a copy and Wild Places is proud to stock the guide. As is usual on this site, the price includes postage.

Jim Eyre was a legend in his own lifetime – a hard caver and ardent cave rescuer, but also a talented cartoonist and outrageous raconteur. His two-part autobiography comprising It's Only a Game and The Game Goes On is now available as a set with a considerable reduction in price.
